Notes:  Queenie begins the letter by saying how ill Papa (William Porter Shine) is.  He died 2 months after this letter was written.

She mentions the birth of Joseph, the first son of Gus and his bride of one year.

Henrietta writes a note at the end of this letter.

Mar 2nd 1895

Dear Brother

We have not heard from you in a long long time. why dont you write occasionally?  Papa is very very feeble has not been out of the house in over a month and not out of the bed much of the time though I think he is a little better now than he was a week ago. he is very much emaciated and one of his legs is all broken out in sores something like scrofula.  Gus & Phoenie have a bouncing big boy

three weeks old and weighs 12 lbs his name is Joseph Wade will call him Wade.  Sallie has a fine boy he is very much like little Henrietta we think he is just as sweet and pretty as can be he weighs 20 lbs.  Sis Minnie came down yesterday she has been quite sick this winter but look (sic) better now than Ive seen her in a long time.  Mama is right well.  Keeps up all the time Gus will move out and leave us next week but we have a splendid good boy living with us he woks (sic) land on halves and we board him to look after the stock and act as general errand boy.  All the land and stock is

rented out.  Guess you have heard of the death of Mr O H Crittenden there has been a great many marriages around here this winter but I wont undertake to tell you of them now.  I think you ought to try to come to see Papa he was so disappointed when you didnt come Xmas all the children and grandchildren were here except you and yours.  I will close for tonight write to us soon

March 4th 95

Dr U H Shine

Dear Brother and Sister as Queenie has written and has not filled out the space I will proceed to accomplish a task that ought to have been done long ago.  (I say task because I hardly ever write a letter now adays and you dont know how I dred to begin.)  I received the babies pho - and think her perfectly beautiful many thanks hope it will be my good fortune to See her soon.  I was at Pars yesterday he is quite feeble hasent been out of the house but twice since Christmas

The remainder of the letter is written upside down in the top margin of pg 4 and carried over to the bottom of pg 3 following Queenie's signature.
I would have answered sooned but I have had quite a Spell of Ghastritis since Christmas and just as I was getting better Mr B. was taken and I really have had no time I really hope you will write me a long letter and tell me about the children I have nothing that would interest you We are having bad weather and have had ever since Xmas write soon to Your Sister
