(On 1900 Butler County census there was a Henry Seale, b. Dec 1868 wife Annie and son William H on pg 204, Pct 12, Greenville. Could this be the W H Seale notary?)

H T (Henry T) Seale, Pvt Co C, 62nd Alabama, Butler County. Died 22 May 1915. Application of widow Lucy C Seale (her x mark). P A McCrory (Prudence Annie?) and P C (Pinkney Claude?) Seale attested to Lucy’s state as widow on 20 May 1916. Her permanent address: P.O. Butler Springs, Alabama. Living with son P C Seale. (Pinkney Claude?)
She was born in Butler Springs, 25 Mar 1849. Her father was Pinkney Hilson, who died 14 Aug 1850 at Butler Springs. (Her father was counted on the Butler County census on 13 Nov 1850.) Husband’s name: Henry T Seale, married 29 Mar 1871 (marriage record says Jan) in Butler Springs. She married only once. Never lived in another state. Her husband enlisted in Shelby County 1862, Pvt, Co C, 33rd Inf. under Capt. Pitts. Was never wounded. Captured at Mobile 1864 and imprisoned at Ship Island. Discharged from prison 1865. He was on Butler County pension roll.
Her property: 4 acres in Butler County and 1 dwelling house $150?. No personal property or income. Signed 24 Nov 1920.
His own application 3 Oct 1911. Born 17 Sept 1834. Signed his x mark. R K Murphy attested to his age of over 70 years, having known him 40 years (signed R K Murphy). (Actually, he was only 65 instead of 77, since he was probably born Sep 1846, according to 1850 census Shelby County.)
Application of 1 July 1909: enlisted 1862 at Calera, Shelby County. Paroled 5 May 1865. Lost a finger; unable to do hard labor. Signed his name as H T Seale. His P.O. is Butler Springs, Alabama. Property consisted of: 4 acres in Butler Springs $100.00 with 1 house, <common?> crib garden land in state of cultivation, small orchard; gun $3.00; household furniture $25.00; carpenter’s tools $20.00; total $148.
On 16 Mar 1908, Nathan Scott of Butler County, A M Honeycut and C H Seale of Berry (sic - should be Perry?) County, Alabama (affidavit filed in Chilton County 7 Apr 1908) attested to his Confederate service.
(Note: his brother Charles H was not born until 1860 or 1861, but he is the only C H Seale on the Soundex for Perry County in 1900.)

Application of 23 Apr 1891: wounded at “Geddiesburg” on 3 July 1863 in left arm and has lost use of it. He was a farmer.

On his application of 10 July 1906: enlisted July 1861 at Opelika; discharged May 1865; never wounded; age 66; address: Vance?, Alabama. Signed J A Seale (his x mark). On 12 July 1906, J D McElroy attested to his Confederate service.
On her application of 28 July 1919: he died 23 Apr 1919. W T Steele attested to her state as his widow.

Thomas Jackson Seale, no Company or Regiment given. (Note: two separate envelope files for this man: as Seale and another as Seals.) First file: Widow Martha Ann Seale of Escambia County, Alabama. On her application of 5 July 1906: he died about 1 Oct 1880. Witnesses: A J Conner and W H (William Henry, Jr? – Sr. died 1904) Seale. Schedule of Property: 1 clock: $2.00; household and kitchen furniture: $25.00; total $27.00. Witnesses: M L Canaday (J.P.) and W C? Seale. Flomaton. (Note: Name sometimes spelled Seale, sometimes Seals.)
Note on envelope: stricken from the roll 8 June 1914. On 2 May 1914, there was a notice to her that she was not eligible because she had not given the company and regiment of Thomas Seale. On 23 May 1914, there was a statement by F T? Ferguson, Committee, that Mrs. Martha Seale had failed to appear within 20 days of 2 May 1914, with a note: “I expect that she is not eligible to a pension.”
Application for pension upgrade to first class dated 24 Oct 191-. (Note at bottom of page: born Oct 13, 1837.) Her age: 81 yrs 0 months 2 days. They were married 29 Feb 1860. Witnesses: G W Rowe and J T Seale (his x mark). W H Seale attested to her marriage date being prior to 1865.

On 19 Aug 1918 she signed her x mark to schedule of property: 1 clock $1.00, 1 bed and quilts $9.00, total $10.00. Also signed her x mark to application of 29 July 1918: Martha Ann Seals, address Flomaton; age 80 yrs 10 mo 15 days; lived in Alabama her entire life. Husband enlisted first year of the war, probably July 1860 (sic). In service nearly 4 years; wounded “pretty serious, in the thy by bomb explosion.” Never taken prisoner. Full name Thomas Jackson Seals.
They married 29 Feb 1860. She has no income. Has children living with her upon whom she depends for support. Children: W M Seals, farmer; W C Seals, farmer; J T Seals, farmer. Note on side of form: “She has no children that is able to support her. There is one of them that is having it to do. Resp M R McLellan?” She had applied for pension about 6 years before, which was turned down because name of company and regiment not given.
W H Seale, of Co K of 1st Alabama Cavalry, attested to T J Seale’s Confederate service. W H Seale also draws a pension and belongs to Camp Clanton, Brewton, Alabama (Camp of Confederate Veterans). Signed 5 Aug 1918.
W J Phillips and W L Abernathy of Flomaton attested on 18 Aug 1918 that they had known her 35 and 10 years respectively. She had no taxable property. Her Class 3 pension was approved 10 Sep 1918.

W H (William Henry, Jr) Seale, Pvt, Co K, 1st Al, of Escambia County. 30 Jun 1911 application for pension upgrade to 2nd class. Was born in Greenville, Butler County, has no one else in this part of the country to testify as to his age. One affidavit attesting to his age by Jesse Cox (prob. Anderson Seale’s grandson b. c1861) , having known him 60 years.
Application of 3 Mar 1906: enlisted about 15 Dec 1861 at Montgomery, wounded at battle of New Hope, Ga (shot through right knee) and Relay, NC (shot in left lower jaw, losing all teeth on that side); age 64. On 28 Apr 1906, John K Boggan and L E Seale attested to his Confederate service.

Henry Paul Watts, Co E, 15th Cav, of Butler County; enlisted latter part of 1863 at Mobile; widowed; lists children and ages and their occupations; was not on census of Confederate soldiers because he was in north Alabama when census was taken; signed 12 Dec 1919 before W H Seale, Notary Public. W C Coker and H C? Seale attested to his address (They were from same precinct as his.) on 30 Jan 1920.
Letter of 2 July 1920 refers to Henry P Watts, formerly of Snow Hill, Wilcox County. Letter from Pension Office of 14 June 1920 reports no record in Washington of his service, but a letter from his captain verified his service.

Total $600. Personal property: clocks, watches, jewelry: one @ $10.00, total $10.00. Sworn before H D Lampley, Probate Judge Butler County 2 Aug 1911. He signed his x mark.
Application: resident of Escambia Co. Enlisted 20 Sep 1863 at Pollard; discharged 11 July 1865; was not wounded. Was taken prisoner at Orange Courthouse in state of Virginia; was imprisoned at Elmira, NY from which he was discharged when the war was over. Age 87 years. P.O. address: local RFD #1, Alabama (sic). Signed his x mark 2 Aug 1911, Butler County. Also in Butler County (same page of form), J J Garnett attested to his service on 2 Aug 1911, as did D M Manning (with his x mark).

His application of 21 May 1894, Butler County, says he was pvt, Co D, 33rd Alabama. P.O. Greenville, Al; farming. Same information on 21 May 1898. That application was approved 9 July 1898.
His application of 4 Apr 1896, Butler County: wounded in left hip on 7 May 1863 at New Hope Church in Georgia. P.O. address: Shackleville; farming. Taxable property consists of “not anything”. Signed J D Vickery. Pension approved 9 June 1896. His application of 20 Feb 1897: pvt, Co D when wounded 27 May 1863. P.O. Shackleville; farming. Taxable property consists of “nothing”. Signed J D Vickery.
Widow S A Vickery filed Schedule of Property in Escambia County 5 June 1901 with her x mark: one horse $40; one cow and calf $20; five head hogs $5; watches, clocks, jewelry $25; farming tools $2.50; total $86.50. On 4 Apr 1917, she applied for reclassification to first class pension. Her age: 80 yrs 5 mo 26 days. Signed her x mark. J W Vickery attested to marriage prior to Apr 1865. Marriage date: 29 Dec 1853.

July 1861 at Butler Springs; cannot make a living on account of old age and disease; age 71; P.O. Awin, Alabama. Property: 76 acres ($100.00) in Monroe County (Sect 24 TWP 10 R11) and one house, value $25.00. No personal property listed. Service attested to by W E Coleman and J G Booker on 31 May 1899.
Her application of 20 Apr 1903?: he died 24 Oct 1899. J G Booker and W E Coleman attested to her state as widow on 20 Apr 1903. She owned no real or personal property.

She was born in Pine Apple on 29 May 1845; father: J J Thigpen, who died in Pine Apple (no date); married in Pine Apple (no date); husband died in Pine Apple. On 12 May 1910, Harris E Carter attested to Confederate service of Wiley Melvin Watts, who died 6 Aug 1902. On 24 June 1910, Marshall Smith attested to his service (signed his x mark).
On application for reclassification on 26 Nov 1920, Elizabeth signed her x mark.
