BLOW ON HEAD WITH HOE BRINGS DEATH TO YOUTH

Clabert Latiolais surrendered to Sheriff Fontenot Sunday morning and was placed in the parish jail, where he remained for thirty minutes until a bond of $5000. was raised for his release. He is charged with delivering a blow on the head of LUCIEN GAUTREAUX that caused his death. The skull was fractured and death followed several hemorrhages of the brain.

Friday the Latiolais and Gautreaux youths were in the stable on the farm of the father of Latiolais when an argument came up which was followed by a fist fight. As told to the representative of the Signal, young Gautreaux picked up a singletree and started toward Latiolais. The latter returned the assault with a hoe, felling the young Gauthreaux with a blow to the head.

Saturday night Gautreaux died as a result of the wounds after he had suffered several hemorrhages of the brain.

Sunday morning Latiolais, in company with his father, came to Crowley and surrended to the sheriff. This occurred on the Latiolais farm near Church Point. Latiolais is 18 years of age and Gautreaux was 16 years old. The latter was employed on the farm of Latiolais’ father.

Sunday Coroner Frances held an inquest with the verdict that death was the result of a blow on the head delivered by Gautreaux (sic).
