DEATH OF A CONFEDERATE SOLDIER
Crowley Signal, February 20, 1904
Adjutant Wm. J. Murphy, of Camp 38, Confederate
Veterans, of Donaldsonville, sends the Signal a copy of the following
resolutions recently adopted:
Whereas, it has pleased Almighty God to call to
himself the soul of our noble and chivalrous comrade, Hiram H. Carver,
therefore be it Resolved, that at his death we are again called upon to mourn the loss of one of our comrades of this camp.
Resolved, that we bow in humble submission to the holy
will of God, and that our hearts be saddened at the knowledge of the melancholy news from Crowley of the death of Comrade Hiram H. Carver there, on the 9th of September.
Resolved, that by his death the community in which he
lived has lost one of its noblest citizens, the U.C.V.A. one of its most
valiant defenders in upholding the banner, and the cause of the South, the
survivors of the noble 2nd La. Calvary, one of its most fearless
comrades, the bar of this state one its brightest and most learned members, his children, a devoted and loving father.
Resolved, that this camp tenders to his children our
profound sorrow and sympathy.
Resolved, that his name be engraven on our memorial
tablets with the names of our honored dead comrades.
Resolved, that our flag be draped in mourning as a
token of our sorrow.
Resolved, that these resoloutions be published in all
Donaldsonville newspapers, and a copy be sent to the children of our noble
comrade.
