Dear Sister
Your letter of the 23 came last night. I was glad to here that you was all well. I have not felt very well for a few days past but am fealing quite well to day. I have had the old Va.complaint agane. the feavor Agu (?) and Dairrhae the Agu is the worst. I do not expect to be very healthy through the Months ofAugust and September as I never have been in this climate. North and South Carolina agreas with me vary well. but I never have had good health in Va. but a little while at a time have stood thisCampain the best of any that is all that keeps me from reenlisting. I cannot afford to do as Benjamin did for 1,000 dollars. he has been sick ever since he came from home. has been off to the Hospital Most of the time he is to the Regt now but dos not do any duty a heavy gust of wind would blow him away. he now is fealing bad becaus he reenlisted he ses that he new at the time that he could not stand it but wanted to go home and see his folks. I shall not enlist agane this fall I intend to stop north next winter if I live untill my time is out. then if I Chuse to enlist next Spring it will be know bodies business but my one. I love Uncle Sam and his work as well as I ever did and he givs us better rations if any thing than he did when we furst came out. but three years is long enough to work for one man without a resting spell. I expect to be mustered out of the survice the 21 day of Oct.if I am alive at that time. I enlisted the 14 but we all have to stay untill the last Co.was mustered into the U.S.service. We have had a vary hard rane storm of late the dust is all dried up and it is not mudy the are is quite Col and it is vary pleasant doing duty My wound ia all most well I am doing duty now. go to the front to night stay 48 hours. We have been under fire ever since the 15 (?) of June with the exception of one day that we went to Bermuda evry 6 day we are in the frunt pit when thare we are fighting or the same thing when the pohsies (?) Johsies (?) show their heads we use them for a mark as they do us. some one in the Regt get kiled or wounded all most every time the Regt is to the frunt we have had some wounded in camp. shells go over Camp all most evry day from both ways. some burst over Camp but know one has been hurt by shells yet. we are exposed as mutch in Camp as in rear pits all most, the sheat is full so I will say good by.
