I’m looking for burial information on Peter Robinson (1791-1841) of Binghamton, who was a member of the NYS Assembly in 1826-1831, serving as Speaker in 1829. He was born at Pembroke, NH on Nov. 15, 1791, the son of Gen. Asa Robinson (1763-1828) and Rhoda (Bodwell) Robinson (1761-1830). After attending Dartmouth College and reading law, he went to Binghamton in about 1816. (His parents also moved to Binghamton from NH.) He died there on Oct. 9, 1841. Any help is very much appreciated!

Does anyone have access to deaths or obituaries for 1986 Broome Co, (Conklin) - Robert F. Sullivan died in October 1986 (b. Jan 16, 1930).

This was a suicide - I don't know if they are handled differently.

Researching the family of Frank Leroy SULLIVAN b. 1899 (1930 census lived at 283 Leroy St., Binghamton, NY with Helen E. and two children Joyce and Robert) died 11-15-1974 in Binghamton, Broome Co., NY Irish-Catholic. He had a sister Gertrude. 1930 census shows Frank living at 131 Leroy St. Also in the same house is Gertrude age 30 and Anna E. age 60. I can’t get back further on Anna E. or find the name of her husband – nor do I know for sure that this was Frank’s mother. The 1920 census shows an Anna E. living at 56 Lathrop Ave. with Edward (18) Gertrude (16) Francis (Frank?? (14) and George. If anyone connects, please contact me.

I am trying to find any information on Joseph GAGE. He married Phydelia/Adelia TUTTLE (she was born in 1852) in the Sanitaria Springs area. There is a tombstone with his name on it in the Sanitaria Springs cemetery, but there are no dates and no cemetery records. I have not been able to find him in any census records for Broome County. They had Walter (1868), Daisy (1881-1958), Albert E (1862-1939) and Ophelia (1870). Phydelia is in the 1870 Chenango Forks, Town of Fenton census with her parents (William and Emily TUTTLE--they are indexed as Smith!!! on the Ancestry site) and Walter, age 2, and Ophelia, age 1/12. Any information that anyone might have is obviously more than I do. Phydelia is my great-grandmother's sister.

Mary CASE married Samuel Butterfield MONROE in 1832. They both were born in 1810 and had come with their families early into the Town of Colesville, Broome Co. from VT & Conn. Mary Case Monroe died in 1916 at the age of 106. Both are buried in New Ohio Cemetery. Her birthdays appeared regularly in the newspaper from the year she turned 97, we have clippings until she was 104. We cannot find her actual date of death, she lived with her son S.E. Monroe (a city engineer) & family in Binghamton.

Is the Church near the New Ohio Cemetery still open, We have visited the Cemetery, it appears to be still used. Is there someone who is descended from this Monroe family who might know the actual death date of Mary Case Monroe? Her brother Gaylord Case was my husband's 2nd Great Grandfather.

Summary: Sarah Pratt (daughter of Eli B. Pratt of Colesville) ….. b. 23 June 1840, m. (1) 12 Nov 1588 to Orlo Reed, m. (2) __________ to William Morgan, d. 10 Mar 1865 (age 28). William Morgan remarried to Emma Redding after Sarah’s death. They have a daughter, R. Della Morgan b. abt 1866. He, Emma and daughter Della end up in Rochester either shortly before or after Della was born. William Morgan dies sometime before the 1880 Census (presumably in Rochester). Della marries William C. Powers, son of millionaire / Banker D.W. Powers of Rochester in 1883. They have one son, Daniel W. Powers b. 1886. Della and William have a rocky marriage that ends in divorce in 1895. Della retained custody of son Dan.

The last we know of Della is that she was living in New York City as of June 30th 1896. She was ill with Malaria but was planning a trip abroad to England and then to Buenos Aires and eventually returning home. For reasons unknown, her son Dan was living (secretly) with her Uncle Eli B. Pratt in Colesville on that date. Husband William and Son Dan show up living in Syracuse abt 1910. William’s and Dan’s internment records list their residence as Syracuse, NY at date of their deaths, 4/2/1933 and 11/4/1971 respectively. However other data for Daniel W. suggests that he was living in Culpepper, WV.

I’m looking to fill in the blanks on:

· William Morgan between his arrival in Rochester abt 1865 and his death prior to 1880.

· R. Della Morgan-Powers after 6/30/1896.

· William Craig Powers between 1895 and 1933

· his son Daniel W. Powers between 1895 and 1971.

What ever became of Della? Why was Dan secretly living with Uncle Eli Pratt in 1896? Did Della ever make her journey abroad? If so, where did she spend the rest of her life? She seems to have vanished off the face of the earth after 6/30/1896. When Did Dan re-unite with his Father? When did they move to Syracuse? Did they live together or did either marry? Occupations?

I am looking for an ancestor who family tradition says came from Broome county New York. Per family tradition he was William Knuttle (B: abt 1780). born in Kent, England. William married and came to Philadelphia where his son William (II) was born. William (II) was united in marriage in 11/7/1802 to Saran Jay (B: 05/28/1785). They were baptized and united with the baptist church in Broom county New York in 1817. Their nine children were born in Broome county between 1803 to 1824,

In the 1810 census and 1820 census, Chenango Broome New York; a William Knuttle is listed with about the right number of children of the right ages. This corresponds to the period when his children were born. In the census of the same period there is also a John Jay family living in the same area where he may have meet a Sara Jay. (While it is family tradition that Sara Jay was a sister or child of John Jay, the curator of the John Jay Homestead said there are no Nuttles in Chief Justice John Jays family)

The family spelling may be Knuttle or Nuttle as it is currently spelled.

I am looking for information to confirm this tradition.

Looking for any information about the Chapel (Chappell) family. The biographical sketch of Gurden Chapel by the Pioneer Association in Michigan, says that he was a York man, born in Chenango in 1793. I have no idea who his parents were. For a long time, we thought he was born in Chenango County, however it was not made a county until 1798. It was only recently that I discovered the town of Chenango in Broome County and the associated hamlets of Chenango Bridge, West Chenango, and Chenango Forks. This seems to be a more likely area to search for this family. The 1790 census does not list anyone with this family name living in Broome County. Gurden also had a brother named Samuel, born in 1795 in New York, a sister named Martha, and a half-brother named William Andrew Chapel, and a half sister named Almira, born in 1811 in Ontario. I believe the family lived in the Chenango area from about 1793 to 1810.

We think the family migrated to Ontario, Canada sometime between 1810 and 1811. In 1812, Gurden and Samuel Chapel show up on the muster roll of the Canadian Militia in Burford, Ontario. All men between 16 and 60 were required to enlist. I don't believe his family were loyalists. I have searched loyalists records and am unable to find the Chapel (Chappell) family name. I think that they migrated to Ontario prior to the war for the land, and as a result found themselves embroiled in the War of 1812 on the Canadian side. Gurden fought at the Battle of Lundy's Lane near Niagara, and was possibly involved in the attack on Detroit. In 1814, he married Rachel Landon, daughter of Nathaniel Landon at Burford, Ontario. I believe that Gurden's father was an associate of Nathaniel Landon, who was a soldier of the Revolution, and a Captain of Militia during the Clinton Campaign against the Indians in Pennsylvania. Landon's name appears on several land transactions in Pennsylvania, and his son Nathan, was born in 1794 in Chemung, New York. Records show that Nathan Landon was a landowner in Burford, Ontario in 1805. Young Nathan Landon also appears on the muster list in Burford along with Gurden and Samuel Chapel. So it appears that these two families had some connection prior to moving to Ontario.

In about 1830 Gurden and his own family left Canada and homesteaded in Ada, Kent County, Michigan, where he farmed and ran a ferry service across the confluence of the Grand and Thornapple Rivers. He died in 1875 and is buried in the Findley Cemetery in Ada, Michigan.

If anyone has come across this family name in the Chenango area, or comes across any information that would help identify the parents of Gurden Chapel, please contact me. Several researchers have looked for many years without success. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Date Posted: 3 December 2006

I hope this fits into your category of bound out children. I am researching my John W. Rich line. John W. was living in Triangle and Broome Co., NY. I cannot find him in the 1855 State Census but he shows up as owning a home on the 1855 Map of Triangle by Beers. In the 1855 State Census there are two Riches that appear to be living in Eggleston households, Triangle, NY. Charles Rich, age 7 is listed as a servant and John L. Rich, age 9 is listed as a servant. Charles is living in the Frederick C. and Lora/ Laura (Warner) Eggleston/Egleston household. John L. is living in the Sylvester and Laura (Eggleston) Eggleston/Egleston household.

Frederick C. is a father in law to my John W. Rich. John W. married Frederick's eldest daughter Sarah. From this marriage came a John H., Marion F. and Charles R.. By 1855 Sarah is dead but John W. has remarried. Laura married to Sylvester, is the daughter of Frederick C. Eggleston and would also be a younger sister to Sarah married to John W.. At first I thought these children were John W.'s kids. Charles is the right age for birth, but John is not the right age for birth and he has the wrong middle initial, "L" verses "H".

The other thing that puzzled me was that if these children were related to the Eggleston family, why are they being listed as servants and not relatives?

One option might be that John W. Rich had two brothers that came to Broome Co. in about 1839/43ish. James, I have followed and don't believe they were his children. George, I don't know anything about, but he owned land in Triangle. I am thinking that he may have been married and had children. Maybe he died.

I don't know if you can help at all, but I am thinking that these children were bound out. I would like to know who they belonged to.

Thank you,

Seeking information regarding Ellen M., Alden P. or Jesse Rosel NORTHRUP along with their possible connection to the family of Samuel S. and Isabel BISHOP from Broome County, NY.

Jesse r. Northrup (s/o Delbert and Adelia (LUTHER) Northrup) was the widower of Maude A. (HART) Northrup - they were married in Groton, Tompkins County, NY on 13 Jul 1904. Maude was the daughter of Alphonso E. Hart and Elta Belle (DENNIS) Hart (my great grandparents) from West Dryden, NY and a sister to my paternal grandfather, Jesse Edwin Hart.

Family history has been passed verbally that Ellen died at about 26-28 years of age [between 1916-1918], leaving four small children (two which were Ellen and Alden). After her death, the father supposedly had all of the children adopted out and left the area.

This family was found on the 1910 census records for Groton, NY - Ellen was listed as 9 months old and Alden as 2 years old.

A WW I draft registration card listed Jesse Northrup as residing at 123 Court St., Binghamton, NY when the card was filed on Sept., 12, 1918. He gave his nearest living relative as his daughter, Ellen Northrup, North Baldwin St., Johnson City, Broome County, NY

On the 1920 census for Union township in Broome County, Ellen was listed as 11 years old, a boarder in the household of Samuel and Isabel Bishop. In addition, Jesse Northrup was located on the 1920 and 1930 census records in Binghamton, as a lodger/roomer and his marital status was given as "w" (widower) on both records.

Would like to exchange information with anyone who may have information or knowledge of these families. I'm also hoping to locate the names of the youngest two children born to Maude and Jesse and any descendants of all four children.

What happened to Alden, Ellen and their two younger siblings????

I have an extensive amount of information and family photos regarding the HART/MILLAGE/DENNIS and associated families from Tompkins/Tioga/Cortland counties that I'm willing to share with any possible descendants of Maude and Jesse Northrup.

My GtGtGfather Ira Fuller of Burlington, CT married Sally Barnes of Ridgefield, CT in Lisle in 1814. He bought land and built a house in Triangle (or maybe Lisle) about 1822 or 1823, on "Connecticut Hill." Where was that? It doesn't show on the 1902/1903 Historic USGS 15 Min. Series maps for the Greene NY quad (SW section) or on the Harford NY quad (SE section), but H. Smith's late 19th C. history of Broome County mentions it and lists as residents Ira and Sally Fuller and 6 or 7 other immigrants from Burlington, one of whom (Marcus Hart) died there in 1832 and at his request was buried in his orchard. If possible I would like to mark Connecticut Hill on the map of the area that I intend to put in my extensive MS of the history of my branch of the Fuller family.

I am looking for info, or confirmation of children in this family. My earliest proven ancestor, Ira James Rice was born in Greene Co. NY, 1808, known brother, Joel H. Rice, 1814.

I have strong hints that Ephraim Rice was their father. The only Ephraim Rice in Greene Co. NY, was at Catskill, Fed. Census of 1790/1800/1810, then gone from there. I believe he appears in the Fed. Census of 1820, Broome Co. Chenango, NY. and in the 1825 NY State census. I am trying to discern if this is the one and the same, man/family. If so, he is listed by the LDS Site as Ephraim Royce. This makes sense, since I have taken a Y-DNA test, and it proves Royce paternal linage.

The LDS Site lists this Ephraim's father as another Ephraim, then another Ephraim, Nehemiah, Nehemiah, to old Robert Royce of CT., 1642 or so. I have no conclusive proof of this connection, just circumstantial, so, I am trying to tie my Ira to the last of the three Ephraim's, then on back to old Robert. (LDS also list a daughter, Sally Royce, b. 1812, and Ephraim's wife as Sarah Johnson, dau. of Joseph and Phebe Johnson). More circumstantial, Sarah had a sister who married a man in Catskill, also. The Johnson's apparently migrated from CT. to Catskill as well.

One of the hints about Ephraim is the fact that as a small child, growing up on a farm in NE. my father would call any of the stubborn little Jersey bull calves, "Ephraim", when they would act up. He never would tell me why and just got "funny" when I asked why. Maybe he never knew, had just heard a family saying, such as, "As stubborn or bullheaded as Old Ephraim"!

Thanks for any help, pointers, or directions!

The 1860 census of Onalaska, La Crosse Co, WI shows the family of Christopher PAGE (Age 65/68, born NY): Sarah 60 NY, Sarah 18 NY, Moses 16 NY, Christopher 10 WI, Rosella 6 WI, and Frances F 3 WI.

I am searching for the parents of CHRISTOPHER MARSHALL PAGE who is, I believe, the 10-year-old in this census. His marriage registration said that he was born 1849 in Sheboygan and that his parents were Christopher and Sarah.

Later censuses in Wisconsin do not show any Christopher and Sarah that I can find.

The only clue to a Christopher Page in NY that I could find was one C. Page in Broome County listed in a census index. But, if he and his two children (the older in the above census) were born there, I would have expected more.

The 1860 ages given would indicate that Christopher was born in 1792 or 1795 (could not read the age well) and that Sarah was born in 1800 about. The ages of the other children indicate the family was in NY until about 1844 - and perhaps in WI by 1849.

There is the additional problem that - if Sarah's age is accurate - she would have been age 57 when the last child was born (is that possible?). So perhaps the last three children were not their natural children. If not, they probably took the children of a relative - who would have been whom?

Any assistance in locating this or these family/families would be gratefully appreciated.
