General Description of the Monument (from the Report of the Gettysburg Monument Committee of the 121st New York Volunteers, compiled by Lt. Col. J.W. Cronkite, Chairman on authority of the committee.)
"It is built entirely of Quincy granite and standard American bronze, 6 feet square at the base,
and 14 feet 3 inches in height, including the surmounting figure of the soldier, which is 7 feet.
The front face bears this inscription:
'121st N.Y. Infantry, (Col. Emory Upton),
2d Brigade, 1st Division, 6th Corps.
Held this position from evening of
July 2d, 1863, until close of battle.'
Also the 6th Corps Cross, and Coat of Arms of the State of New York, in bronze.
On the reverse of dies is a bronze medallion of General Emory Upton, life size.
Each of the two sides of the die contains a large bronze panel.
One contains the following inscription:
ORGANIZED IN HERKIMER AND OTSEGO COUNTIES.
