E.H. Bennett Dead Col. Ed H. Bennett died at his home at Cooper at 2 o’clock Thursday morning after an illness lasting several weeks. Col. Ed Bennett was a prominent figure in Hunt County and at the North Texas Bar for many years and scores of Hunt County friends will read of his death with great sorrow. He served as district attorney of the eight judicial districts many years ago and was a most successful prosecutor, then for many years he was engaged in the regular practice of his profession and as counsel Ed Bennett was much sought and in the courtroom was a fighter to be reckoned with. Col. Ed Bennett lived at Cooper and served as county attorney there before coming to Greenville but his family was largely reared in this city and he continued to reside until a few years ago when he moved to Hugo, Okla., and later returned to his old home at Cooper. Col. Bennett is survived by a widow, 3 daughters, and one son, the widow formerly Miss Mosie Jenkins of this city, with a son some ten or twelved years old are left at Cooper. By his first wife, two daughters survive, Mrs. Robert Story of Durant and Mrs. Horace Kelton of San Antonio. A son, Jim Bennett, preceded his father in death some years ago. A daughter by his second wife, Miss Eddie Bennett, also lived at Cooper. The surviving widow and the 3 daughters were all reared, or practically so, in Greenville and have hosts of friends here who deeply sympathize with them in their great sorrow. Burial will be had at Cooper this (Friday) afternoon and a number are expected to go from this city to the funeral (Greenville Banner) ~ ~ ~ The Rains County Leader, May 21, 1915 Submitted by Elaine Bay, Friday May 16, 2008 at 7:35 p.m.
