She has exemplified all of these through her dedication to the work of the Lake Creek Cemetery.

"To know the character of a community I need only to visit the cemetery." — Benjamin Franklin.

The Lake Creek Cemetery was first organized on April 11, 1906. According to Mrs. Bena Patterson and Mrs. Anna Barnett, Koplin M. Anderson was the first person buried there. Others have been moved to Lake Creek from various cemeteries, thus explaining the dates of those who died previous to 1906.
Since that time, various people have worked on committees. We do not have details of those committees, but we know that many individuals have done volunteer work to help with the upkeep of the cemetery. Among these are:
        Glee TAYLOR
        H. C. YOUNG
        Lowell MITCHELL
        Elmer THOMPSON
        Troy KERN
        Prentice DONALDSON
        Bena PATTERSON
        Lucile DEVANEY
        Mildred BRANCH
and many others we are not aware of.
On June 29, 1985, a group of interested persons met at the Lake Creek United Methodist Church, organized the LAKE CREEK CEMETERY ASSOCIATION, and elected Trustees with the hope of eventually making the cemetery self-supporting.
Many efforts have been put forth to advance the work of the association by contributions of time, money, suggestions, and information to help update the historical records of those loved ones who have gone before us.
We realize there will be errors, but with your help we hope to eventually correct them and have all the information correct.
We express appreciation to each one for his devoted efforts. In addition, we wish to thank the following:
Attorney George Preston for giving us legal guidance during our first year of organization.
Members of the Lake Creek United Methodist Church for allowing us to have our meetings there; and
To the many friends who have given donations and memorials to help make it possible for our cemetery to be a place worthy of those buried there.
We, the Trustees of Lake Creek Cemetery Association, wish to express appreciation to each person who has helped in any way to make our first year of organization a success.

LAKE CREEK CEMETERY ASSOCIATION
History continued
1997
The things we do today will be history to the people tomorrow. With that thought in mind, we want to record some of the things we have done to better our cemetery since the Association was organized in 1985:
1.   Put chain link fence and entrance archway across the front of the cemetery.  (We were later reimbursed for the archway by the children and grandchildren of Ozz and Pearl JETER as a memorial to their family.
2.   Researched and printed cemetery booklets in 1986 and updated them in 1997.
3.   Had the monuments straightened and leveled.
4.   Bought trees and shrubs to beautify the cemetery.
5.   Had water piped to the cemetery.
6.   Had chain link fence put around the three remaining sides and also around the new
sections, G and H.
7.   Bought the land north of the cemetery so there would be room to expand in future years.
8.   Graded and graveled new roadways in the cemetery.
9.   Bought 60 steel markers and marked off lots in Section G of the new addition.  These sell for $50.00 per space or $200.00 per lot.
10.  Put up flag and flagpole in honor of Mildred Branch.
11.  Portable toilet donated by Jr. Preston.

Many hours of work have been done to accomplish these things, but none of it could have been accomplished without the support and donations of patrons of Lake Creek Cemetery.
Now our main goal is to see the Special Care Fund grow so that some day the cemetery can be self-supporting.
We, the Trustees of Lake Creek Cemetery Association, wish to thank each and everyone for your continued support.
