Burkitt Lindsey

Burkett Lindsey, the son of Caleb Lindsey, was born near the "Lead Mines" of Kentucky in 1808. At an early age, he moved to Missouri with his parents and brother Eli. At 18 years of age (1826), he moved to Arkansas (Palaski County) where he hunted bears. (Dr Ras Miller, age 90, told me in a letter that his grandfather carried a scar on one of his hands where a bear had bitten him. The scar extended across the back of his hand. As Dr. Ras played checkers with him in the late 1800's he was greatly interested.)....

Frank & Cinda Pollacia

Frank & Cinda were born in 1911; she in Dallas, TX. and he in DeRidder, La. They were married in 1938 and resided in DeRidder. While operating Pollacia’s Goodyear Shoe Hospital – they were active in the religious community of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and numerous civic organizations. They were famous for their role as Santa and Mrs. Claus for the children of DeRidder for over 50 years. Frank was a charter member, and active for 60 years, of the Lions Club....

Frank Evans Powell

Frank Evans Powell is a resident of De Ridder, an attorney by profession, but is best known for his capable services as a member of the Legislature, a leader in all the progressive legislations of his terms. He was largely responsible for the passage of the bills creating the present parishes of Jefferson Davis, Allen and Beauregard, the last named of which he represented eight years in the Legislature. Mr. Powell was born on a plantation in West Feliciana Parish December 11, 1881, son of Frank E. and Sallie (Ball) Powell....

Nicola Reina

Nicola came to the USA aboard the Italia on 23 November 1896. Landing at Ellis Island, he was 33 years old and began working at various jobs. The lumber industry and corresponding opportunities for jobs was the motivation to settle in Bon Ami. His three brothers, Gaetano, Salvatore, and Giovanni eventually returned to Corleone, Italy. Nicola remained and married Lucia DiCarlo (buried in Lake Charles). They had 5 children – Joe, Bessie, Angelina, Josephine, and Frances. He died 1909 (39 years old) of pneumonia.

Samuel Hyatt

Samuel Hyatt, son of Samuel and Henrietta Hyatt of South Carolina and Washington County, Alabama, was born in Edgefield District, South Carolina on December 1, 1812, and was living in Perry County, Mississippi, when, on December 25, 1828, he married Elizabeth Etheredge, daughter of Archibald Etheredge, of Edgefield District, South Carolina. Elizabeth's grandfather, Aaron Etheredge, fought in the American Revolution and her grandmother, Elizabeth DeLoach Etheredge, was the granddaughter of Michael DeLoach, a member of a refugee Huguenot family that came to American and settled in Virginia in 1663....
