Hie Gerdes Laid to Rest Friday

Funeral services were held Friday, July 15, 1955, at 2:00 p.m. in the Presbyterian church in Brewster for Hie Fredrick GERDES, who died at the Worthington hospital at the age of 67 years, 7 months and 21 days.

Heart condition was the immediate cause of death.

Officiating pastor was Rev. George SAUNDERS. Burial was in the Hersey Cemetery with Art KANE, Jay BARDEN, Al WEHLER, Rudy MEIER, Bill WALDANGER and Hans NELSON as pallbearers.

Mr. GERDES, son of John and Helen GERDES, was born November 20, 1887, at Claytonville , Illinois.Fredrick The family moved to Minnesota in 1900.

On November 2, 1911 he married Alta Mae POWERS at Jackson , Minnesota.Fredrick There were nine children born to this union, all of whom survive except one son, Luverne, who died at the age of two years in 1924.Fredrick Hie was also preceded in death by his wife, Alta, who passed away July 12, 1944, exactly eleven years to the day and the month prior to the death of Mr. GERDES.

Left to mourn his departure are three sons; Harvey, Clarence and Lindle, all of Worthington; and five daughters: Viola (Mrs. Emil VON HOLDT) of Round Lake, Leita (Mrs. Henry REIMER) of Long Prairie, Myrtle (Mrs. Robert THOMPSON) of Kinbrae, Elaine (Mrs. Donald FURY) of Brewster, and Shirley of Minneapolis.Fredrick Two brothers: John of Melrose , George of Rapid City, South Dakota; and two sisters: Mrs. Walt GEBE of Minneapolis and Mrs. Fred BESSER of Rushmore.Fredrick Also surviving are 20 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson.

Attesting to the esteem in which Hie was held were many friends from here and elsewhere who gathered at the Presbyterian church Friday afternoon for the services.Fredrick Hie will long be remembered in the Brewster community and he leaves many friends who mourn his passing.

On behalf of the residents of Brewster we express our sincerest sympathy to the GERDES family, we realize how great their sorrow must be.
