PIONEER RESIDENT OF THE COMMUNITY PASSES ON

Joseph FURY, resident of the Kinbrae community for 54 years, passed away peacefully at his home here at 4:45 Wednesday morning, October 3rd. Of especially rugged physique, Mr. FURY had never known real illness during his long and active life span of 90 years, 6 months and 19 days.

Joseph FURY was born in Kilbeggan, Ireland, March 14, 1844. He came to this country in his 18th year, making his home for a time with friends in Dubuque, Ia. Later he went to Elkport, Clayton Co., Ia., where he was united in marriage to Miss Mary CALLAHAN.

Nine children were born to this union, of whom Katherine, Mamie, Daniel, Joseph Jr., and one daughter in infancy have preceded their father in death.

Left to mourn his passing are his wife, one daughter, Mrs. L.A. LANGER, and four sons, Michael, John and James, all of the Kinbrae community, and Wm. H. of Grand Forks, N.D.

Emigrating with his wife from Iowa by way of covered wagon and slow freight he arrived at his homestead east of Kinbrae on April 13, 1882, and had since remained a resident of that community.

Mr. FURY was a good citizen, kind neighbor and true friend. Alert and ready to co-operate, sympathetically interested in the public good, and best welfare of his community, he served for 20 years as trustee of St. Mary's Catholic church at Kinbrae, and it was chiefly through his influence and activity that parish edifice was erected for the Kinbrae and Dundee communities. He also served for years on the school board, giving freely of his time and effort for the betterment of our school.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday morning at 9 o'clock at St. Mary's church, with Rev. Father MATTHEWS officiating. Pall bears were six of Mr. FURY'S grandsons, Clair, Philip, Cyril, Johnny and Sylvester FURY and Clifford LANGER.

Relatives and friends from out of town who attended the funeral included Wm. H. FURY and son, Patrick, of Grand Forks, N.D.; Mr. and Mrs. N.A. Wienaudt of Worthington; Mr. and Mrs. J.B. HABERMAN and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas VOSS of Heron Lake. Interment was made in the family plot in the St. Gabriel cemetery at Fulda.

In the words of Richardson,

"Warm summer sun shine kindly here;
Warm southern wind blow softly here;
Green sod above, lie light, lie light,
Good night, dear heart, good night, good night."

We wish to thank our neighbors and friends for their many kind acts of sympathy and friendship extended us during the illness and death of our beloved husband and father. Especially are we grateful for the floral offerings, to Father MATTHEWS and the Dundee choir.
