This cemetery is located on Sand Lake Road east of Merryville. Turn north from US 190 and travel one mile following the blacktopped Sand Lake Road. You will pass a couple of real neat looking ranches along the way which have pipe fences with corner posts topped with drill bits. The fences are painted white and look really nice. The cemetery is on the right side of the pavement.
Hennigan Cemetery is very "homey" looking---honeysuckle vines growing on the fence, large cedar and oak trees, and shrubs of different kinds growing inside the fence. Outside the fence on the left side are muscadine vines, mulberry trees, and huckleberry and yaupon bushes to attract birds to the area. At the back, you can view an interesting swamp area at close hand. The right side borders on a hay patch. The cedar trees draped in Spanish moss look very"South Louisiana." All in all, we found this to be a unique looking cemetery.
There is a covered shelter with a table in the center of the cemetery for dinners, etc. Some time recently, there were metal funeral home markers with names and dates placed in front on the unnamed grave markers.
